The four sections are not a menu. You don't work on the one that feels most relevant and ignore the others. They are a sequence; one that reflects the actual logic of how a startup moves from "another one" to a monopoly.
## object:desire is the map
Before you can use any of the tools in the other sections, you need the conceptual frame that makes them coherent. Why meaning drives value. Why the best product doesn't always win. What the symbolic stages are and where you currently sit. object:desire is where that map lives. It's also where the framework positions itself against the models you probably already know: Product-Market Fit, 10x product, PLG. Understanding what object:desire is _not_ is part of understanding what it is.
## Symbolic Engineering is where you start
The first move is always meaning. Before you think about spread, before you worry about blockers: what does your product mean right now? Is it connecting with desire?, and if not, what would. Symbolic Engineering is the work of answering those questions and acting on them. Semiotics gives you the mechanics of how meaning can be engineered. Psychoanalysis gives you the target: the user's fantasy frame, what they desire, what they believe, what they resent.
You cannot skip this and go straight to DeMark. If the meaning is wrong, trying to spread it faster will fail.
## Spread Engineering is how meaning reaches critical mass
Once you have a meaning that trigger desire: you spread it. Not by talking louder, but by getting the right people to carry it to the right audiences in the right sequence. DeMark is the system for doing that; from first spread partners to density. This is where initial advantage becomes cumulative advantage and the flywheel starts turning on its own.
## Adoption Engineering is how you protect what you've built
Pull is fragile until conviction is solid. Someone can desire (pull) your product and then lose everything in the first five minutes because something breaks the meaning they came in with. Adoption Engineering is the discipline of making sure that doesn't happen; removing what kills conviction right when it matters most.
#### In short
Build the right meaning. Spread it until others carry it for you. Make sure trying the product confirms it rather than breaks it. That's the sequence. The three engineerings are how you execute each step.
